Calabash Bight

Calabash Bight is a premium WILD HARVESTED sea moss. It is sustainably harvested off the Mesoamerican reef at depths of 70-100 feet of pristine Caribbean waters off the coast of Honduras. Our family of divers selects only the mature plants from the reef and sun dried for the bet results. Our odyssey started 7 years ago when we realized that the same sea moss that our ancestors were preparing for us as children, was now considered the new superfood. But trying to find a product that was not grown by human intervention close to shores on ropes and in saltwater wave pools at local suppliers was non-existent.

Whenever we returned home to visit, we seek ways to make our family members self-sustaining, and as turn out, we have divers in the family that were diving for Sea Cucumbers during fishing season in Honduras and ask them to harvest sea moss for our venture while they were already down at the depths. Our endeavor provided another source of income for the family that they previously were just harvesting for family and friends. So, every time you purchase Calabash Bight Sea moss, you are also helping the hard-working fishermen of Honduras sustain themselves and their families.

We know where 100% of our sea moss comes from, and we do not purchase from the plethora of suppliers that promote and sell Wild-Crafted Sea moss, allowing us to control our own quality. We sell only Wild Harvested Sea moss. If it is important to know where the products you use for your health and wellness, perhaps it is to select a premium sea moss the is harvested from its natural environment. We are of the opinion, at Calabash Bight, that man cannot craft a wild product, hence the reason that we harvest our own.

La Ceiba, Honduras is the birth home of Dr. Sebi. Calabash Bight is located 30 miles of the coast on the island of Roatan. For those of you that have taken a cruise or visited the island, you are familiar with the pristine waters that surround Roatan, Utila and Guanaja. The Barrier reef is second only to the great barrier reef and is a preferred dive destination for divers.

Our Divers

Fishing season in Honduras runs for July to February of each year. So, we are busy harvesting and drying, and storing our sea moss for the market. When people ask how we chose Roatan as a location, we have a very simple answer: Deep water close to shore. There are very few places in the world that have such immediate access to deep water. When you factor in the need for calm seas, a lack of strong currents, accessibility to nutrient rich deep water, you are left with very few places that are usually already in use by other commercial shipping or military operations. In fact, 1000 ft from West Bay Beach, there are water depths of 1000 Ft.

Deep Sea Water contains many types of minerals, such as Mg, Ca, Cl, Na, K, Se, and Vn. In fact, DSW is more abundant in minerals compared to surface seawater, where Wild-crafted Sea moss is grown. The example of the difference between the amount of minerals among surface seawater and DSW is substantial, as shown in Table 1 - Table 2 (2016 Samihah Zura Mohd Nani etal). DSW is a good nutrient source for sea moss and could be claimed as a nutrient’s provider, since the minerals contained inside it provide many benefits to the health of the sea moss, hence, its abundance.

Process

We harvest the sea moss from the ocean caverns that have been mapped out so that take care not to over-harvest any one area, and thanks to GPS, we have mapped out major catches of sea moss and return only when they are mature again. We allow a full off-season (5 months) for the sea moss to regenerate. Sea moss is known to regenerate in approximately 50 days in its natural environment.

Gel Preparation

Our Sea Moss Gel does not require any special preparation, such as boiling and cutting into manageable pieces for blending. Try this experiment for yourself; soak your wild crafted sea moss in distilled or spring water of choice for 16 hours. As you will learn, Wild Crafted Sea moss does not absorb water and emulsify naturally. Do the same with Wild Harvested Sea Moss and it will swell and emulsify naturally because it comes from its natural habitat.
